The following three Funds, administered by the Scottish Enterprise, have been designed to provide equity funding for business start-ups and SME’s which are based in Scotland and operate in the following sectors:

  1. Technology
  2. Creative businesses
  3. Electronics
  4. Pharmaceuticals
  5. Biotechnology
  6. Manufacturing.

Through these funding schemes, Scottish Enterprise provides equity funding on a purely commercial basis with selected co-investment partners.

Scottish Seed Fund (SSF) This funding scheme was designed to assist start-up companies and SME’s whose commercial activity is normally technology-based.  The SSF provides investments from £20,000 to £100,000.

Scottish Co-Investment Fund (SCF) Part funded by ERDF, the SCF is a £45 million equity fund which can invest between £50,000 and £500,000 in company finance deals of up to £2 million.

Scottish Venture Fund (SVF) Launched in 2006, the SVF provides funding in the amount of £500,000 to £2 million for Scotland’s growing technology-based private companies.  It will operate where funding requirements are typically between £2-10 million.  Initial funding for 2006/7 and 2007/8 is £20 million.
